1. Kids Fishing Tournament (July)
The Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club host an annual kids fishing tournament at Calaveras Lake. Approximately 40-50 kids are invited from Davis Scott YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, and a local Boys Scout Club. Each kid is provided an outing on member’s boat. Members provide water safety equipment, bait, and another adult as a safety precaution. All participants receive lunch and a prize. Additional prizes are awarded for first, second, and third places based on fish size.
2. Community Fishing Tournament (September)
Anyone wishing to participate in the Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club’s Community fishing tournament is welcome. The tournament is held at Southside Lions Park Lake. There are three winning categories Adult, Youth, and Child. Lunch and prizes are provided at no cost to participants.
3. Spring Family and Friends Fishing Tournament (April)
This fishing tournament is held annually in Corpus Christi Texas for members, their families, and friends. It is designed to sustain and or improve comradery within the organization. Prizes are first, second, and third in three categories: red drum, black drum, and speckled trout.
4. Fall Public Fishing Tournament (Oct)
The fall fishing tournament is a salt water tournament held in Corpus Christi Texas and is open to the public. An entry fee is required to participate. Entry fees are used to payout prizes for first, second, and third in three categories: red drum, black drum, and speckled trout. A donation is also made to the Davis Scott YMCA. Any remaining funds are placed in the Club’s general account and used to help meet other financial obligations.
5. Pier Fishing Lessons for Kids (March, June, November)
Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club owns a fishing pier in Corpus Christi TX. Kids from, groups, clubs, churches, youth centers, and other organizations are invited to attend the club’s pier fishing and water safety course.
6. What’s in Your Boat (Halloween) (Date determined by YMCA)
The Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club participates in the Davis Scott YMCA’s “What’s in Your Trunk” Halloween celebration by providing a boat filled with candy, books, drinks, and other giveaways. The items are attached to a fishing rod with light resistance applied to give a feeling of catching a prize. Flotilla’s what’s in your boat booth has been the highlight of the event.
7. Contribution to YMCA (December)
Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club makes an annual donation to the Davis Scott YMCA. The dollar value depends on the Club’s revenue from its fish fry and fishing tournament.
8. Boat and Water Safety Course (March)
Practicing safe boating and water safety is important to Flotilla Boating Fishing Club. Members are required to attend a coast guard approved boating and safety course hosted by-annually. The course is open to the public as well. Cost is determined by the coast Guard. All fees are paid directly to the Coast Guard instruction team.
9. Coast Guard Boat Inspection (April)
Flotilla hosts an annual Coast Guard boat inspection. The inspection is mandatory for members but is open to none members. The inspection is another means to ensure vessels are safe and meet Coast Guard standards. Lunch is provided for all participants at Club’s expense.
10. Kids Summer Camps (Club House) (July)
Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club owns an 18 bed club house in Corpus Christi TX. Kids from, groups, clubs, churches, youth centers, and other organizations are invited to attend the club’s summer camps. The camps are used to teach fishing techniques, water safety, general life knowledge such as staying drug and alcohol free, having a positive attitude, sustaining good behavior, developing and displaying strong character, and the importance of getting an education.
11. Fish Fry (June)
Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club holds an annual fish fry as its primary fund raiser. All members are required to sell tickets and participate in the event. Funds collected are the primary means to meet the Club’s annual financial obligations.
12. Zulu’s Scholarship Program (January)
The Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club make an annual donation to the ZAZA Zulu Association’s scholarship program. Amount of donation depends upon the state of the Clubs general fund account.
13. Church Donation (February & October 2017 date and location TBD)
Members of Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club attend church service together twice a year. A donation in the name of the club is presented to the Minister and congregation.
14. Hawaiian Luau (September)
Each year during the month of August; Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club host a Hawaiian Luau. Each member is responsible for their invited guests. Entry fee is based on facility rental, band/DJ, and food cost.
15. Alamo Area Alliance Black School Educators Scholarship Program (AAABSE) (February)
Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club makes an annual donation to the Alamo Area Alliance Black School Educators Scholarship Program by purchasing a full page advertisement in the AAABSE fund raising catalog.
16. Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club college scholarship (Presented at Luau September)
Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club presents two $500 scholarships to local graduating high school seniors. The scholarship is awarded through an application process. A committee of three will review applications and choose winners. Selection will be based on merit, need, community and school involvement and other factors that make this student stand out. Scholarship funds will be distributed directly to colleges of choice in the name of the winning students.
The Flotilla Boating and Fishing Club holds events year round.
